Why need plan? Why need purpose? Why need progress?
I stare at my friend. I’ve been telling her about how frustrated I am with my job-hunt. I’ve been asking her how she knows where she’s going.
So she shoots back. And then explains.
Must we have a plan? Must we always know our purpose?
We have this assumption that if we know what we were put on this earth to do, life would be good.
Is that true?
She has a point. All my life, I’ve been thinking, if only I knew my purpose and my passion, life would be great!
Maybe that’s you. You’re trying to figure out what’s your plan. What’s your purpose. Where you’re progressing to at this moment. You look at your friends who are posting glorious pictures of where they are, and they look oh-so-happy.
And you?
You’re oh-so-miserable.
Here here. Let me tell you the truth.
No one really knows what they are doing. If they say they do, they may be lying to you. They may be lying to themselves.
Why do I say this? Because as much as I can read out my life purpose to you - honestly, it could change tomorrow. No one knows what tomorrow will bring.
We have a vague sense that there will be sunrise and sunset… but beyond that, can you control what else happens?
No.
Having a plan and a purpose gives you, me, an illusion of control in a world that’s constantly changing. An illusion.
Fine John. Thanks for bursting my life plan. What do I do now?
Read on.

We spend life finding answers.
We live life asking answers - the answers we have, how we’ve answered, or why we even bother answering them.
1 tip
Don’t figure out the answer to,
- what’s my plan?
- What’s my purpose?
Figure out a better question. Maybe a better question to ask is,
What if I didn’t know where I was going in life, or why I’m here on Earth?
Is that okay with me?
Why or why not?
P.S. I help people to learn to be okay when life doesn't feel okay. Let's chat more.
