There are those days, aren’t there? When you want to chuck it all in, and you want to give up. You wonder if there’s a point to doing this work. Those are the days when someone has said ‘Your work sucks!’ Or when your boss barely appreciates what has been a major lift for you. Or when your client just walks away,
without acknowledging you.
After all, no one is looking, no one is caring. And during the days like that, let me tell you this. You must first care about your work. Before others care about it.
Because every single human being has doubt.
They have doubt whether their work matters, whether their work is too small to even be noticed. Those are the times when a chill runs down your back, and you think - maybe that’s true. My work is small stupid insignificant.
When days like that happen, my default (and I think many of our defaults, are)
‘what’s wrong with me?’
Maybe there’s nothing wrong with you. As my therapist once said,
You need to be militant about your mind.
That’s a strong word - militant. When that thought appears, reframe it as
my best is enough for me.
There’s nothing wrong with you.

Treating yourself to something nice doesn’t have to be something excessively expensive. It can be something small you delight in. You love. That makes you go, ‘Oh wow, I love life again.’
1 tip
Take a break. On those days when nothing seems to be going your way, take a break. Really. If you’re working on something, give yourself the afternoon off and treat yourself to something you love. Like a good meal. A good bath. A nicely brewed coffee.
Often we think that we need to have a fancy 3-course dinner, or a holiday, or a fancy ‘thing’, but actually, there’s moments to be enjoyed in the small things of life. It doesn’t have to be big luxuries.
It can be just small delightful moments enjoyed through a lovely cappuccino someone brews for you.
Or a tenderly arranged pastry that someone bakes. Or a beautiful walk down the beach.
P.S. Know someone else who may benefit from this? Share with them this newsletter.
