‘Seeking to spark the most potential within you per word of any online newsletter’
I apologise that this came 4 days late and that we missed last week’s newsletter. Last week, I was away for a deeply moving training by Yee and his team at And, and needed more time than I expected to process what was happening.

The spirit of an organisation
Walk into any organisation, and you will sense its spirit.
It’s there the moment you walk in.
Do you feel a lift the moment you enter its doors, or is it more like a dull, silent dread?
Until I attended Yee’s
course, I never had the language to articulate what I was feeling. Nor was I able to clearly tell what it was about the organisation that gave me the sense that something was off.
Now I know (or at least a little more).
You will see it in how most walk. Do they stride with purpose, cubicle to cubicle, or do most seem to be dragging their feet, taking their
time?
You see it in their eyes. Is there a sparkle, or does that light seem to have gone out of their eyes?
You hear it in the language - that’s left unsaid. Funny question.
How long does a manager let you talk about your idea before cutting in?
Count those seconds, and you will have a glimpse into the language of possibility that exists in your organisation.
The painful thing about seeing this, is that once you see, you cannot un-see.
Once you have a sense of the hope that exists in your organisation, you will find it hard not to make a decision about whether
you should still stay or leave it.

What do you do about an organisation’s spirit, now that you see it?
1 tip
First you grieve
Perhaps it does help to grieve, that the hopes and dreams you’re bringing into an organisation might never be met by it.
Recognising that is crucial.
Because until you see that the organisation might never fully reciprocate your ideas, feedback and suggestions, and might even resist and spit you out for it, you might find yourself constantly
banging your head against the wall, and wondering why you’re coming off worse.
The action that moved me forward
This week, the biggest action that moved me forward was writing a letter of forgiveness to my previous organisations and letting go of the hurt they had caused me, in trampling all over my dreams.
And perhaps then the question is,
How do you move organisations, people, or whoever you’re trying to persuade, when you see this happening?
Yes, I know we always want the quick fix. But here as tempted as I am to give the principles and tools that might help, perhaps this might be
better.
Before you move others, you must first recognise what’s moving within you.
You’re going to start seeing problems, once you start looking out for them.
And when that happens, I ask that you sit with them, rather than trying to solve the problem there and
then.
