What would that be worth? So many students I’ve worked with have cracked their heads staring at the computer,
wondering how best to start and then burning the midnight oil.
Despite working your butt off, you end up getting a grade you don’t want. You end up miserable and feeling
horrible about yourself. You wonder if you should just quit university. Maybe you’re just not cut out for this.
You wonder why you’re doing this to yourself. Taking on a part time job to put yourself through university,
struggling to turn in quality assignments, and then seeing your work at your job suffer as well.
Is it worth
it?
Nope.
Instead, imagine another
alternative.
In 2019, when I started my final year of university, I was committed to making the most of my last year. Here
was a list of my commitments.
- I was teaching a weekly 2-hour class on public speaking to 28 students. This involved on average, 4 hours of preparation each week.
- I was writing a book for social workers. This took up 6 hours every week.
- I took on a part time job writing articles for a blog. This was 2 hours every week.
Total? 14 hours per
week.
This was on top of my school
commitments.
- Daily placements from 9 to 5, 40 hours every week
- Final assignment comprising 40% of the final grade, 8 hours per week.
Despite this, every week, I took a day out. No work, nothing. Went out, played, had
fun.
8 hours per week on assignments, out of the 168 hours you have each week, is 4% of the time spent. It’s 1.5
hour a day. But it was the most productive 1.5 hours each week.
And it led to
outcomes.
My average at the end of university?
72/100.
You can see here a graph of all the grades I
got.
From 35/100 for the first assignment to 72.
How?
All of us have 168 hours per week. How you choose to spend that is your
choice.
But how you spend that WHEN studying is
important.
In Ace Craft, we start from within. We look at what are the unhelpful habits of mind that stop you from
succeeding. We then get INTO the professor’s mind. We understand what THEY are looking for, so YOU can get your A. We then get into action. We see how you can focus, FOR action, so you crank out that A, reliably, whether you like it or not.
There’s a process. It’s not MY process. It’s a process refined over my conversations with other A* students,
researching into books on study skills, and running experiements on myself.
Stop banging your head on the
wall.
There’s
help.
